Established in 1972, the Bliss family began the enormous task of clearing land just as pioneers had done generations before. After 8 laborious years a system of fields, fences, ditches and road system was in place. Buildings soon followed and ever since the Bliss family has remained devoted to the production of healthy, affordable government inspected meat products.
Our products are “Farm Fresh – Raised Naturally” and available at the farm gate and Farmers Markets (Huntsville, Thursdays and Bracebridge, Saturdays). We practice the raising of the best product we can produce using natural methods. We do not use growth promotents, stimulants or injections of any sort to increase weights or cause speedy growth. The raising of meat commercially and large scale for over the counter sales in stores and supermarkets has in the past sanctioned these methods. We do not believe in them.
Beef: The beef produced at our farm is brought off summer pasture and finished in the fall on hay and grain. We know this practice improves the overall product as well as flavour. The beef produced is Lean which means more meat with minimal shrinkage when cooked. Unnecessary fat is not produced on the carcass that you, the customer, must have cut & trimmed off at your expense, not to mention, the needless cost to produce. As a reminder, naturally fed meats do not have the benefit of being tenderized during the growth stage by chemicals, injections, growth promotents or other feed additives. Therefore, natural beef may require for some cuts, especially steak, to be marinated and generally cooked slower at lower levels of heat with added moisture if required. For best flavour beef should be consumed within one year.
